Adopt A Family — We are seeking monetary and in-kind donations!

Take the opportunity to give to those in need this holiday season.  The CHV Social Committee is organizing neighbors to adopt families in need through Volunteers of America.  We are getting 3 families and one senior citizen to help this season. You can help out in a method of your choosing:

1. Go shopping for a gift for one or more family members. For each child, buy one toy, one new outfit, and one Christmas meal for the family (with a gift card) (assume at least $75 in purchases). Volunteers for America gives us information about each family member, including toy interests and clothing sizes.

2. Provide a monetary donation:

  • Your gift of $20 provides a toy for a child
  • Your gift of $30 provides warm winter clothing for a child
  • Your gift of $50 provides Christmas dinner for a family
  • Your gift of $150 provides an entire Christmas experience for a family of four

3. Provide large used items in good condition.  Some families may be in need of larger items like beds, appliances, or other large items.  After we get “wish lists” from our families, we’ll let you know, and anyone who may have these items available for donation can provide them!

4. Help put together and deliver the gift package to the family. Families are local (Canton or Ypsilanti), and this is a great experience to deliver the packages. Girl Scout or Boy Scout troops are also welcome to help with this.

After we find out how many people we have interested in participating, we will contact you if you are helping out with the shopping or delivering.

If you are interested in helping, please contact Blake Crady at blakecrady@yahoo.com.

Our local Cub Scouts are having a food drive. They delivered bags to houses this past weekend and will be coming around on Saturday, November 12th to pickup the bags of food from porches.

Support our local Cub Scouts and help those in need by filling up a bag or two!

NOTE:  Please remember that we have two “drives” this weekend.  The Cub Scouts’ Food Drive on SATURDAY, and the CHV Returnables Drive on SUNDAY.

Put returnables on your porch next Sunday, November 13th!

The Social Committee is having a returnables drive for fundraising.

  • Place cans/bottle in bags on your front porch by 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 13.
  • Mark the bag(s) with a sign that says “CHV Social Committee.”
  • Returnables will be picked up by noon.

NOTE:  Volunteers are needed to pick up cans!  Large trucks are helpful.  If interested in volunteering, contact Tammy Russo at pcsh328@yahoo.com.

Money collected from the drive will be used to fund the various events throughout the year, including the upcoming Children’s Holiday Party.

Asphalt and road repairs will continue

Greetings Neighbors!

Although it’s quick notification, we do have to wait for the weather report and the final go-ahead from the asphalt company, and do want to get the word out now that today, 11-1 and Wednesday 11-2, we will continue to try and complete the re-sealing project before more weather turns us away.  We’re very close, but need everyone’s cooperation in moving cars off the streets and obeying the barricades.  It will only help us down the road…pun intended!

The sealing is important to maintaining our streets and alley ways and we will make every effort to complete the project. Weather has “done us in” on many days, but we have some cooperation now from Mother Nature and hope that you will help us out as well.  These warmer days are critical and will definitely give us a chance to get the project toward completion. We know it’s short notice, but we have to get this in.

Thanks to all for your cooperation during this brief inconvenience. It is most appreciated!
